About

My work has taken me across public health programmes, research, monitoring and evaluation, program implementation, and health-system partnerships in Canada and Asia.

I currently manage a province-wide occupational health research programme focused on hazardous drug exposure prevention in healthcare settings. My role spans multi-site implementation, environmental surveillance, knowledge-attitude-practice research, stakeholder engagement, evidence synthesis and knowledge translation.

What increasingly interests me is what happens after evidence is generated: how research findings are interpreted, adapted, implemented, and sustained in real-world health systems.

My career has moved across very different public-health settings, but the underlying question has remained consistent:

In Cambodia, I worked alongside the national malaria programme on treatment guidance, monitoring frameworks, policy implementation, and community-health strategies. In India, my work included health-system evaluation, reproductive and maternal health, disease-elimination programmes, social research, and programme monitoring. Today, my work in Canada focuses on occupational and environmental health and the implementation of safer practices within complex healthcare systems. That progression is what has drawn me increasingly toward implementation research.

CANADA
Occupational & Environmental Health

Multi-site research on hazardous-drug exposure, environmental surveillance, KAP research, implementation, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge translation within healthcare settings.

CAMBODIA
Malaria Elimination & Policy Implementation

National programme coordination, treatment guidance, monitoring and evaluation, health-system implementation, partner coordination, and community-health strategies within Cambodia’s malaria elimination programme.

INDIA
Community Health, Evaluation & Health Systems

Research and evaluation across reproductive health, maternal and child health, infectious-disease elimination, community programmes, risk factors, programme monitoring, and government health-system implementation.

Where my research is heading

My current work has increasingly led me toward questions of implementation.

Why do evidence-based practices become routine in some health systems but remain difficult to implement in others?

How should guidelines developed in well-resourced settings be adapted where infrastructure, staffing, monitoring capacity, or access to protective technologies may be limited?

And how can we distinguish between components of an intervention that must remain unchanged for safety and those that can be adapted to local context?

These questions are shaping my growing interest in implementation research, particularly in occupational health and safer cancer care.

Current research interests

  • Occupational & Environmental Health
Workplace exposures, environmental contamination, and prevention of occupational health risks.
  • Implementation Research
How evidence, interventions, and guidelines are adopted, adapted, and sustained within real-world health systems.
  • Safer Cancer Care
Occupational and patient safety across cancer-care pathways, including implementation of hazardous-drug safety practices in diverse resource settings.
  • Health Systems Evaluation & Evidence Translation
Evaluating programmes and systems and translating findings into practical strategies for policy and practice.
  • Community & Population Health
Prevention, community-based health programmes, risk communication, and social and behavioural approaches to improving population health.

How I approach research

Rigour

Evidence should be methodologically sound and transparent about what it can and cannot tell us.

Context

Interventions and recommendations need to reflect the realities of the health systems in which they will be implemented.

Usefulness

Research becomes most valuable when findings can inform decisions, practice, policy, or the next question that needs to be asked.
